Alessandra Covini

Give strength and brightness to materials that have slowly lost their expressive potential: this is how the Obsidian workshop combines pigments, stones, sand and cement.

Italian based in Rotterdam, where he lives and directs his studio, he won the 2018 Prix de Rome award, the most prestigious Dutch award for young artists and architects.

Graduated in architecture in 2014 at the Delft University of Technology, after studying at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Technical University of Lisbon, in 2014 she founded 'Studio Ossidiana', a studio that balances architecture, design and visual arts.

Since 2018, the firm has been collaborating with architect and researcher Giovanni Bellotti, Fullbright Fellow and graduate of MIT in Boston. Strong expressiveness and experimentation in the field of tactile experience are the basis of the studio’s work, in which dreamy images and dreamlike narratives are transformed into tangible objects.

The unique design

From the fascination for the process of petrification of the material and the "thrown", comes a design attentive to the materials. The constant research leads to the creation of elements that fascinate not only for the materiality but for the elegant colors. Elements of different nature come together to create unique design elements.
